Choose a passport photo size by country or document
The country-size page opens the passport photo maker with the UK / Schengen / EU 35 x 45 mm preset selected. It provides a list of eight built-in country or regional standards, lets you adjust image zoom and vertical framing, and exports either one JPEG photo or a 4 x 6 inch print sheet. Use it as a quick way to select one of the sizes currently available in the application.
The selector is not a complete list of every country or every passport, visa and identity document. The current implementation contains eight options. It does not claim verified coverage of 100+ countries, and it does not automatically retrieve live rules from embassies or government sites. Photo rules may differ for a passport, visa, work permit, national ID or online application within the same country.
The eight built-in country and regional presets
The tool currently lists the following sizes and target pixel dimensions:
These are the measurements encoded in the current tool. They are useful starting points for preparing a canvas, but the name of a preset does not mean that every related application uses exactly the same requirements. Check the issuing authority's current instructions for the document you are applying for, especially where digital photos and printed photos follow different rules.
Why pixel dimensions depend on DPI
A physical photo size can be represented by different pixel dimensions at different print resolutions. At 300 DPI, inches are multiplied by 300; millimeters are divided by 25.4 and then multiplied by 300. The app's listed pixel sizes are rounded to whole numbers for its presets. For example, the 51 mm square preset is shown as 600 x 600 px, while the 35 x 45 mm preset is shown as 413 x 531 px.
The tool uses fixed pixel dimensions stored with each country option. Do not assume that a preset also embeds a 300 DPI density tag in the exported JPEG. The component renders the selected pixel canvas to JPEG and does not call the DPI metadata writer used by the separate physical-dimensions resizer. If a printer or portal checks metadata or exact pixel dimensions, inspect the output file and check the authority's specific instructions.
How to use the country photo-size selector
Prepare one clear portrait and choose the document profile that matches your application:
The country selector changes the output dimensions. It does not automatically change every other part of the photo to meet the document's rules.
Understand the framing controls and biometric guides
The image is scaled to cover the selected canvas. The zoom slider and vertical position buttons help you adjust which parts of the portrait remain visible. Because the image is centre-cropped to fill the canvas, parts of the original image may be removed. Review the crown, chin, shoulders and headroom before downloading. The component does not provide horizontal drag controls or automatic face detection.
The biometric guide switch draws a generic oval, eye-level line and chin guide in the preview. These graphics are there to help you inspect framing. They do not measure the actual subject, detect the eyes, calculate head height or confirm compliance. The guides are rendered on the preview canvas and are not included in the downloaded JPEG. They should never be described as a biometric verification or approval check.
Choose a single image or a 4 x 6 print layout
The page offers two visible output choices. Single Photo creates one JPEG at the selected preset's dimensions. 4 x 6 inch Print Sheet creates a landscape 1800 x 1200 pixel JPEG containing repeated copies of the same photo, with light outlines to help separate the prints. The number of copies depends on the selected photo size and the internal layout calculation, so inspect the final sheet before printing.
The source contains an A4 sheet rendering branch, but the current user interface does not provide a button to select it. The only visible layout choices are Single Photo and 4 x 6 inch Print Sheet. The tool handles one uploaded photo at a time; it does not generate a folder of different applicants' photos in a batch.
Country sizes are not the whole photo requirement
Physical dimensions are only one part of a passport or visa photo specification. Requirements can include face height, eye position, headroom, plain background, uniform lighting, natural skin tone, neutral expression, photo date, file type, pixel range and maximum file size. The rules can also distinguish between printed photos and digital uploads. A photo that matches the tool's pixel dimensions can still fail another rule.
For example, the U.S. State Department specifies a 2 x 2 inch print and a 25-35 mm head-height range, and asks for an original, unedited photo. The UK printed-photo guidance specifies 45 mm high by 35 mm wide and a separate 29-34 mm head-height range. Canada's passport photo instructions specify 50 mm wide by 70 mm high and a face height of 31-36 mm. Those are examples of why size alone is not enough; verify the current guidance for your own document.
Limitations, privacy and a final checklist
This page processes the photo locally in the browser with Canvas and exports JPEG. It does not automatically remove the existing background, detect a face, validate eye position, certify a document standard or guarantee approval. The current selector contains eight preset profiles, not every country worldwide. It is a practical preparation tool, not an official country database.
Before you submit or print:
Use the built-in country sizes as starting measurements. The issuing authority's latest instructions remain the final reference for every passport, visa or ID application.
