Make a passport-style photo with a white background
The white-background passport photo page opens with a US square photo preset of 51 x 51 mm, displayed as 600 x 600 pixels at the tool's nominal 300 DPI size. You can switch to one of the other built-in document standards, adjust the image framing and choose whether to download a single photo or a 4 x 6 inch print sheet. It is a browser-based canvas tool for preparing the dimensions and layout of an existing portrait.
A white canvas does not automatically make every uploaded portrait suitable for a passport application. The tool does not use face segmentation or AI background removal. It draws the uploaded image over a white canvas and crops it to fill the selected dimensions. If the source is an ordinary opaque photo with a room, wall or outdoor scene behind the person, that original background remains in the photo. Start with a photograph that already has a plain background when the receiving authority requires one.
Choose a built-in photo size
The passport photo tool includes eight regional or document presets. These are the dimensions available in the current selector, not a database covering every country's passport, visa, work permit and identity-card rules.
The built-in choices are:
These values describe the tool's preset list. Official requirements can depend on the exact document, application channel and issuing authority. Confirm the current rules before relying on a size for a real application.
How to create a white-background passport-style photo
Use a recent, front-facing image with even lighting and a simple background. Then prepare the canvas:
The tool accepts common image formats through the browser image picker. It processes one uploaded photo at a time; it is not a bulk passport-photo generator for several people in one pass.
Adjust zoom and photo position
The framing controls change the scale and vertical position of the portrait before it is drawn to the target canvas. Zoom can be reduced or increased, while the Up and Down controls shift the image vertically. The default crop fills the target frame, so parts of the original image outside the canvas are cut off. Check that the head and shoulders remain fully visible and that there is enough space above the head for the requirements of the document you are preparing.
The on-screen guide is a visual aid, not a biometric analysis. It draws a generic eye-level line, chin guide and head oval on the preview canvas. These marks help you judge placement, but the tool does not detect eyes, find the crown of the head, measure face height or automatically reposition the photo to meet a country's precise biometric rules.
Understand the white background control
The white-background route starts with a white canvas. The background selector also offers an off-white or light-gray option. However, the tool does not remove the background from an opaque uploaded photograph. It fills the canvas first and then draws the image over it using a cover crop. If the uploaded JPEG already contains a wall, room or outdoor background, that scene remains visible.
For best results with this current implementation, use a source portrait that already has a clean, plain background. A transparent PNG may show the selected canvas colour through transparent pixels, but an ordinary photograph with a solid background will not become a cutout. Do not describe the tool as an AI background remover or assume that choosing white converts a busy background to white.
Single photo or 4 x 6 print sheet
The output layout offers two selectable options. Single Photo exports one JPEG at the selected preset's pixel dimensions. 4 x 6 inch Print Sheet creates a landscape 1800 x 1200 pixel JPEG with repeated copies of the selected portrait and light cut guides. The number of copies depends on the selected photo dimensions and the layout calculation; inspect the sheet before printing. The 4 x 6 sheet has a white paper background.
The current interface exposes Single Photo and 4 x 6 Print Sheet. It does not expose an A4 sheet selector, so do not rely on an A4 export option on this page. The single-photo and print-sheet outputs are JPEG. The canvas export uses high JPEG quality, but the tool does not provide a separate file-size target or guarantee a portal's maximum KB requirement.
What the biometric guide does not check
The preview can show generic lines for eye level and chin position and an oval for approximate head placement. Those lines are drawn on the preview canvas. They are not copied into the final downloaded photo. More importantly, the tool does not verify that a person's face actually aligns with the guide. It does not assess expression, eye visibility, glasses, shadows, lighting, head rotation, clothing, image age or photo authenticity.
A size-correct image can still be rejected. For example, U.S. passport rules specify more than a 2 x 2 inch canvas: the State Department also sets head-size and background requirements and asks for an original, unedited photo. The UK's printed-photo instructions specify 35 x 45 mm and a separate head-height range. Check the latest instructions for the particular document before submitting a generated image.
Privacy, file handling and final checks
The photo is loaded into the browser and drawn with Canvas; the resizing and layout work is performed locally on the device. One photo is selected for each run. The final output is a JPEG, either a single image or a 4 x 6 sheet.
Before using the result:
The white-background page is a size and print-layout helper. It does not guarantee official acceptance, and it should not be presented as an automatic background replacement tool.
